The Ben Reeves Collection

Most curiously Ben doesn’t own a car, a biker at heart his pride and joy was recently stolen but he is saving for his next bike. Bens’ paintings take around 50 hours depending on the complexity of the vehicle.

Ben studied Graphic Design at Newcastle College and then at Kingston University. Exploring different mediums and techniques, Ben began using brushes and airbrushing techniques eventually combining the two to create a photo-realistic style.

The technique Ben uses for painting involves blending from one colour or shade to another with as little evidence of brush marks as possible.
Ben starts off by producing a detailed pencil drawing, taking around 4 hours. Next he will start painting the interior, using an airbrush he fills in the basic shape for example of the seat with a mid-tone, ending the interior by adding shadows and highlights with a fine paintbrush.

Wheels, headlights, grill, bumper etc are added next. Depending on the car, this can take anywhere from 15 to 30 hours. The largest area of the car is usually the bodywork and this is painted with an airbrush, masking off all the different areas that don’t require certain shades or colours of paint. The paint is applied in several layers using loose masks until the desired effect is achieved. This can take around 2 to 3 hours.
Finally the tyres are airbrushed and then the detail is added using a paintbrush. Adding the shadows, details and reflections can take around another 6 to 7 hours.
